The information below is based on preliminary data about students eligible to graduate in our Class of 2023.

Number of Graduates

Seattle Colleges — North Seattle College, Seattle Central College, South Seattle College — will graduate nearly 3,000 students in June 2023.  

  • More than 1,200 or approximately 43 percent are first generation 
  • More than 1,800 or about 62 percent identify as students of color
  • Nearly 40 percent have indicated an intent to transfer to a university and continue their education.

June 22 Commencement Ceremony

  • We expect approximately 800+ graduates to gather in-person with family and friends to walk at the Seattle Colleges Commencement ceremony on June 22, 2023 at T-Mobile Park. 
  • More than 80 Seattle Colleges faculty and staff volunteer to make the Seattle Colleges Commencement a memorable celebration for graduates and guests. 
     

Seattle Promise Graduates

More than 200 Seattle Promise students have been awarded a degree or certificate in 2022-2023 or applied for graduation this spring.

  • Approximately 45 percent are first generation
  • Roughly two-thirds identify as students of color
  • Similarly, about two-thirds will earn or have earned a transfer degree
  • Approximately 10 percent will earn or have earned a professional-technical degree

Seattle Promise graduates mostly transfer in-state to both public universities like the University of Washington, Western Washington University, and Washington State University and to private universities like Seattle Pacific University and Seattle University. A few are headed across the country to highly rated institutions like Mount Holyoke University and the University of Illinois at Chicago.

A majority of our students, 43 percent (7 percent higher than the statewide average of 36 percent) will graduate and transfer to a university to complete their four-year degree.

Seattle Promise Graduates

185 Seattle Promise students are graduating in the Class of 2022.

Seattle Promise students are completing at a rate two times higher than the national community college two-year average. Seattle Promise reports a 29 percent two-year completion rate and a 37 percent 3-year completion rate in contrast to the 13 percent national two-year average and 22 percent national three-year average. 

Seattle Promise graduates are beginning to register for classes in their bachelor’s program and line up summer internships. To augment these student endeavors, the program has strengthened partnerships with traditional 4-year institutions. Most notably, this year there is a dedicated advisor at the University of Washington working with Promise students to ensure credit transfer, financial support, and a smooth transition next Fall.
