Backend Enhancements

Seattle Colleges now has one database that contains all degree and certificate info (versus the previous two). The new database uses one web interface called the Academic Program Editor. The academic information database dynamically connects to ctcLink (click the thumbnail below to view how).

Why This Matters

Having one database for all degree and certificate information means everyone, faculty, staff, advisors, and systems are working from the same, authoritative data.

  • Reduces conflicting or outdated program information
  • Improves trust in published academic data
  • Simplifies audits, accreditation, and reporting

Moving from two separate systems to one web interface:

  • Cuts down duplicate work and manual reconciliation
  • Lowers training and support overhead
  • Makes updates faster and easier for academic staff

This directly saves time and reduces errors.

Because the database dynamically connects to ctcLink:

  • Program data stays aligned with the official student information system
  • Reduces mismatches between catalogs, advising tools, and enrollment systems
  • Supports accurate degree audits and student progress tracking

Fewer discrepancies between what’s approved, what’s published, and what students see.

Accurate, centralized academic information means:

  • Clearer program requirements
  • More reliable advising
  • Fewer surprises about graduation or certificate completion

Students benefit when systems agree with each other.

Centralized academic data:

  • Makes curriculum approval workflows more transparent
  • Supports compliance with state and accreditation requirements
  • Provides clearer accountability for who updates what and when

A unified, connected system:

  • Scales better as programs change or grow
  • Enables better reporting and analytics
  • Lays groundwork for future design, digital tools, and automation

This path signals a major improvement in data integrity, efficiency, and integration. Not just a technical upgrade, but a foundation for better academic operations and student outcomes across Seattle Colleges.
