Title IX Employee Training

Building a Safe and Respectful Campus Community

At Seattle Colleges, we are committed to fostering safe, respectful, and inclusive environments. As part of this shared responsibility, all employees complete Title IX and Clery Act training through Vector Solutions. This training helps us work together to prevent harm, respond with care, and support our community in a trauma-informed way.

Title IX Employee Training

Seattle Colleges requires all employees—including staff, faculty, academic personnel, and student employees—to complete the Title IX and Clery Act training through Vector Solutions.

This training satisfies the 2020 Title IX federal regulations, which require institutions to train both general employees and Title IX administrators to ensure fair, trauma-informed, and compliant processes.

General Employee Training

All employees must complete an annual, self-paced online course through Vector Solutions. The training covers:

  • Definitions and scope of sexual harassment under Title IX (2020 regulations).

  • Employee obligations as responsible employees/mandatory reporters.

  • Preventing and recognizing harassment and discrimination.

  • How to intervene safely and supportively.

  • Resources, supportive measures, and reporting options at Seattle Colleges.

Completion requirements:

  • New employees: within 90 days of hire or in accordance with your CBA.

  • Faculty: complete during non-instructional time or Development Days (per CBA).

  • Student employees: required to complete the student employee version; must retake if later hired into a staff/faculty role.

Specialized Training for Title IX Coordinators, Investigators, Decision-Makers, and Advisors

In addition to the general employee course, individuals with formal Title IX roles must complete specialized training as required by the 2020 Title IX regulations (34 C.F.R. § 106.45).

These trainings are offered through Vector Solutions, ATIXA, Grand River Solutions, or other approved providers. They ensure that Title IX processes are consistent, impartial, and fair.

Specialized training topics include:

  • Scope of Seattle Colleges’ Title IX policy and jurisdiction.

  • Grievance procedures, including formal complaint, dismissal, and appeals.

  • Conducting prompt, fair, and impartial investigations.

  • How to serve impartially, avoiding prejudgment, conflicts of interest, or bias.

  • Evaluating evidence for relevance, including handling of privileged and medical records.

  • Writing investigative reports and determinations.

  • Roles of advisors, including cross-examination in hearings.

  • Use of trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices.

Completion and updates:

  • Required for all Title IX administrators prior to assuming duties.

  • Refresher or updated training provided annually or as regulations change.

Additional Title IX Training Request:

If you would like to request an in-person Title IX training for your team, please email the Compliance Office

Please note this in-person training would be in addition to the annual Title IX training and not in lieu of the training requirement through Vector Solutions.
