Accessibility Training Resources

DRAFT

Ensuring that all of our websites, digital documents, and large group emails are accessible is both a legal requirement (Title II ADA Update April 2024, WA Policy User-01) and a reflection Seattle Colleges’ commitment to equity. Digital accessibility standards help ensure that everyone can fully access, navigate, and understand the information we share.

As these expectations represent a newer standard - and often a shift in how we design documents, flyers, and web content - there are a few key resources for training available to support you in building these practices into your work:

Accessibility Bytes Series (YouTube Introductory Series)

The Accessibility Bytes program is a series of quick, engaging micro-training sessions designed to help you improve the accessibility of your digital content one step at a time. Built by your eLearning and Accessibility teams - each "byte" focuses on a specific accessibility topic, such as creating descriptive links, using heading styles, or adding alt text to images.

SBCTC Accessibility Micro-Courses

All Seattle Colleges employees are strongly recommend to complete the SBCTC Accessibility Micro-Courses. This is a great introduction training that covers the broad strokes of understanding what it means to be ‘digitally accessible’ and follows a course structure offering two pre-requisites modules, knowledge quizzes, and a series of optional additional modules based on format type you're working in (Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Canvas, Email, PDF).

  • Once you're done, we ask that you submit that proof of completion for each course to the Micro-Course Certificate Completion Form.
  • New employees are often automatically enrolled but may need to verify before quiz completion. Managers may also reach out to inquire about proof of completion for their team. Email District Accessibility for questions or clarity.

Seattle Colleges Digital Accessibility Resource Hub

Seattle Colleges has our very own Digital Accessibility Resource, Training, and Development Canvas site! This hub is designed to support our institution’s commitment to creating inclusive, accessible digital environments for all. Here, you’ll find a variety of resources and learning opportunities, including our “Accessibility Bytes” quick-tip series, access to our state’s comprehensive micro courses, and additional materials to deepen your understanding of best practices in accessibility. Whether you’re a faculty member or staff, we encourage you to explore, learn, and collaborate to help ensure that our digital spaces remain welcoming and usable for everyone.
