Will I receive a certificate for attending?
Yes, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion for attending. In order to receive the certificate participants will need to have missed no more than 2 hours of workshop time. This is not an academic credential; it is a certificate given to participants who have completed the workshop hours and learning objectives.
Who is eligible to apply?
All Seattle Colleges employees.
What is the teaching style?
The workshop, facilitated by Bryna Lieberman with guest facilitators D’Andre Fisher and Scott Rixon to support Systems Thinking and Supervising in a Union Environment respectively, will be interactive and involve experiential group activities, individual reflection, and facilitated discussions. Self-awareness building and collaborative learning are at the heart of its design. The workshop invites you to make personal connections to the content, think critically about what it means to you, and how you want to use it.
Is there a fee to attend?
No, the workshop is free to all Seattle Colleges employees.
What is the time commitment?
A total of 32 hours. There will be four days of class and each day will be six hours long. The additional eight hours of non-class time will consist of a combination of pre- and post-work. It is possible to do two hours of pre- and post-work assignments on each class day so that each day is an eight hour work day.
What if I have to miss a day or a portion of a day?
If you need to miss any portion of this cohort, please register for a future cohort instead.
Why is the workshop limited to a maximum of 15 participants?
We want to provide an interactive learning environment where participants can build relationships with each other and work collaboratively. A smaller class size supports this intent.
If there are more than 15 applicants, how will it be determined who gets in?
In order of priority:
- Classified staff, exempt represented professional staff, exempt unrepresented staff, and faculty will receive priority consideration.
- Central, North, and South will be allotted four seats each and the District will be allotted three seats. If there are less than four or three applicants respectively, those seats will be opened to other applicants regardless of campus.
- Applicants will be selected to help avoid placing a supervisor in the same cohort as an employee they directly supervise.
- Applicants will be selected to support participation from as many different teams and departments as possible.
- Applicants who have previously applied to be in the workshop but were not accepted to a previous cohort will be given priority.
What happens if I don't get in?
If the workshop is full you will automatically be added to the waitlist. Bryna will let you know if you can be moved from the waitlist into the cohort. If you aren’t able to get in to this cohort, you can apply to join the next cohort. It will be offered on a regular basis with frequency adjusted based on demand.
If you have any questions, please contact bryna.lieberman@seattlecolleges.edu
