Like grants, scholarships are money you don't need to pay back. They may be awarded based on merit or need, and may take into consideration special characteristics. Scholarships are offered by many organizations, like private companies, foundations, and nonprofit organizations.
Scholarships require a separate application with its own deadline. Often, scholarships require you submit a FAFSA or WASFA in addition to the scholarship application. All students should apply for scholarships!
Seattle Colleges Scholarships
Seattle Colleges Foundation scholarships are available to help students at North, Central and South cover tuition and/or living expenses while in school. Applications are accepted each year in Winter quarter for the upcoming academic year. One simple application qualifies current and incoming students to be considered for scholarships up to $5,000.

Students at South Seattle College can apply for funding to help cover tuition, fees, and other educational expenses, including textbooks and supplies. Awards can be as much as $2,000 per quarter for three quarters, and up to a total of $6,000 for the year. A single, easy application allows applicants to apply to multiple scholarships.

The Commitment Scholarship helps current Central students with full tuition and fees for current students who have a cumulative 2.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need. If eligible, the Commitment Scholarship will pay the current quarter tuition and fees balance after all other funding sources have paid (financial aid and other scholarships).

Offers a quarterly (excluding summer) maximum scholarship of $5000 for U.S. citizens and resident students at North Seattle Community College. It is meant to support students with limited financial means to pursue academic study abroad through Washington Community College Consortium for Study Abroad (WCCCSA).

Washington State Scholarships
Supports students pursuing degrees, certificates, or apprenticeships in high‑demand fields such as healthcare, STEM, and the trades. Funded by industry partners and matched by the state.
Funding for Washington students pursuing a career in behavioral health. Requires three to five years of Post Graduation Service Obligation (PGSO) in exchange for receiving an award. The award will be distributed over a maximum of three years for program completion.
Seattle Central students in the Chemical Dependency certificate program are eligible to apply.
The American Indian Endowed Scholarship (AIES) helps students with financial need who have close social and cultural ties to an American Indian community in Washington State.
EWP provides financial aid for current teachers, student teachers, paraprofessionals, and non-educators hoping to move into the teaching field. Most are conditional scholarships that encourage individuals to pursue teaching in subjects or locations of high need.
External Scholarships
Merit-based scholarship for Washington community college students planning to transfer to UW. Martin Achievement Scholars are selected early in the first year of their community college career and will fund, encourage and support their second year of study at their community college and eventual transfer to the University of Washington in Seattle.

Offers a variety of scholarships for college students with financial need and who are in the first generation of their family to attend college. Awards range from one-time $2,500 awards to multi-year $20,000 awards.

The Governors’ Scholarship for Foster Youth is a scholarship program that helps young people from foster care continue their education and earn a college degree. Selected students can access the annual scholarship for up to five years to complete undergraduate studies.

Sea Mar offers scholarships based on a variety of criteria including economic hardship, cultural identity, and status as the child of farm workers. Immigration status does not impact eligibility.
