An Overview of Risk Management

Risk management is a concept that helps us identify, understand, and address risks that may affect our students, employees, visitors, operations, and Strategic Plan. Risk management is a shared responsibility. Leadership, subject matter experts, departments, and employees each contribute important knowledge and perspectives to identifying risks, understanding their potential impact, and developing practical solutions.

The goal is not to eliminate all risk, but to help Seattle Colleges understand and manage risk so that informed decisions can be made, resources can be directed where they are most needed, and we can collectively support a culture of safety, accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
 

Risk Services Is an Umbrella Term

Various offices and resources across Seattle Colleges share responsibility for identifying, preventing, and addressing risks that may affect our students, employees, visitors, operations, and institution. While each office has its own area of responsibility, expertise, and reporting structures, they work collaboratively under the Risk Services banner to support safe, accessible, respectful, and compliant learning and work environments.
 

Compliance and Risk Management Office

The Compliance and Risk Management Office provides leadership and coordination for Seattle Colleges' compliance and enterprise risk management efforts. We partner with leadership, colleges, departments, and subject matter experts to assess institutional risks, strengthen regulatory compliance, support informed decision-making, and develop strategies for addressing areas of significant risk.

If you have a concern or become aware of a potential policy violation, safety issue, accessibility barrier, or other situation that may create risk for our community or institution, we encourage you to report it.
