Strategic Bridge Plan Workshops - Olympic Hall
Interested in hearing more about our districtwide Strategic Bridge Plan efforts? Join these 25-minute workshops led by members of the Chancellor’s Executive Cabinet.
Choose from five sessions in Olympic Hall. Each session will be repeated once in Session 2, offering participants an opportunity to attend two sessions.
Each workshop will focus on one of the five priorities in the Strategic Bridge Plan. Get an overview and update on the priority and participate in a short Q&A discussion.
All sessions are open to faculty & staff, and you can attend any session you please. This year, we are encouraging in-person participation, so these sessions will not be recorded, except for Racial Equity in Session 1 & 2.

Lunch Break and Information Fair - Noon to 1 p.m. - Brockey Center
Jam Sessions - Olympic Hall
Jam session are faculty and staff led discussions on topics of interest to employees districtwide. These will be TED Talk type presentations that are short, topically focused, and engaging, with time for questions and discussion. This is an opportunity for faculty and staff to share their passions—related or unrelated to their role on campus—with the campus community.

Data Informed Decision Making with Guided Pathways

Have you ever worked on a project and asked, “Do we have any data that supports this?” Chances are we do! Guided Pathways is an aligned, comprehensive, systemic approach to student success and anti-racist work that has been implemented at the Seattle Colleges since 2015. As part of Guided Pathways work, Seattle Colleges has invested in numerous data dashboards to help you do your job better. See an example of how Guided Pathways used a dashboard to do work. Learn about the district Guided Pathways work and an introduction on how you can use new dashboards to be data informed.

Building Community in the Classroom

The goal of the workshop is to introduce faculty to different ways to build community in the classroom. Community building strategies cover three broad categories: social icebreakers, metacognitive activities, and general group work ideas for instructors. These activities will be presented in an interactive way to give faculty the experience of using several different activities during the workshop.

The student population at Seattle Colleges is one of the most diverse in the state, with more than 90 different languages spoken, and it’s not uncommon to meet someone who has changed their name to a more “American sounding” name. These everyday occurrences might initially seem mundane and unimportant, but research into the experiences of students on college campuses could provide important insights into why the practice of changing our names in order to fit in may be more of a problem than an easy solution.
