Description
A report by the Washington State Labor Education and Research Center, is the first comprehensive analysis of Washington workers by both economic status and potential SARS-CoV-2 workplace hazards.  Not surprisingly, a closer look at which workers are most exposed to both economic and health risks shows that this workforce is overwhelmingly female; disproportionately people of color; and that over 70% of "essential" workers fit in this category.  By looking simultaneously at health and economic exposures, and breaking down the separation between "work" and "home", our State can begin to consider which policy changes can go furthest to address the needs of vulnerable workers and their families.

The pandemic has unleashed unprecedented challenges to the students' learning as well as their lives in general. Students have been realigning fundamental elements such as family, finance, housing, food, and remote education that have transformed their lives as a student.

A group of faculty at Central conducted a student survey to learn students' readiness, resilience, and wellbeing during this time of challenges. The presenters will share a preliminary analysis and shine a light on the experience from the students' perspectives. The shared understanding will help us support our students better in the coming quarters and beyond.

Description
Aside from socially distancing and wearing a mask, how are you taking care of yourself during the pandemic?

As the days get shorter and the weather gets cooler and rainier, going outside to move may lose some of its appeal. In this session, we will go through a workout that emphasizes muscular strength & endurance, balance, and – to hopefully make us laugh – a little coordination. By the end of the session, you will have practiced at least a dozen exercises you can use to assist you with personal fitness and wellness goals. No equipment needed, but you should have a safe, flat surface about 6 x 6 feet, and a mat, blanket, or towel.

Wear clothing you can easily move in.

Description
The Washington State Labor Education and Research Center, housed at SSC/Georgetown, has developed an online compendium of laws and regulations covering workers rights in our state. Regardless of where you work or who pays you, there are laws and regulations that people before you fought for and won. But until we know our rights, it is hard to know how to protect them and enforce them. Whether you are a student, or a wise experienced union activist, a current worker or an Aunt/Mother/Husband/Neighbor/Child of one: we guarantee that www.RightsAtWorkWA.org can help you answer these two questions:  "Can they DO that??!" and "What can I do about it?"

In this workshop, we will review a draft equity statement for Seattle Pathways and how it relates to the current eight areas of focus (See Seattle Pathways Overview in Round 1 of the workshops.)

We will also seek answers to:

  • Why is it important for us to disrupt and dismantle inequitable practices and systems so that all students have equitable access to resources and achieve at high levels?
  • How we can work collaboratively to cultivate the condition for all of our students to flourish?
  • What leadership moves can we implement to shift from rhetoric to identity?

Description
In response to COVID-19, district Faculty Development wanted to fund collaborative efforts to improve teaching and student learning. Having taught online, I wanted to help colleagues.  And together, with the amazing and generous help of instructors Jennifer Mills and Deborah Kapoor, we built a Canvas course/repository for housing information about Open Educational Resources, Online Instructional Technologies, Course Design Strategies, Humanizing and Further Training Opportunities available to help instructors navigate the transition online. We hosted weekly sessions to "test out" new technologies, and foster a community of support with our colleagues from the Art Departments at South and Central Seattle Colleges. This session will review the resources we covered in those ten weeks and share the Canvas course shell we used to house that information.
