This course is part of Seattle  College's LEAD (eLearning Education Across the District) program, and counts for two (2) units towards the pedagogy track. This course is a deep dive into the types of discussion activities used in classrooms, the value of discussions for promoting student learning and achievement, and how to increase student participation & engagement in online discussions.  Because we will be discussing things together, there are regular due dates throughout the course. You should expect to spend roughly 10-15 minutes per day on the course, and check in daily throughout the week. We anticipate participants will spend approximately 4 hours total on this course. There no required activities on the weekends.

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Create a discussion forum prompt to facilitate conversation and engagement in the online classroom

  2. Create a plan for monitoring and facilitating an online discussion
