476.10 OTHER EXEMPT LEAVES OF ABSENCE

At the discretion of the appointing authority, an exempt employee may be granted any of the following types of leave without pay, or with pay for Military Leave as described under 476.30:

  • 476.10.1 Government Service Leave — Leaves of absence may be granted to exempt employee for military purposes and for service in such federally sponsored organizations as the Peace Corps and VISTA. Regular benefits will continue to accrue to the person on leave provided that s/he indicates the desire to return to the institution within 90 days of the conclusion of this service.
  • 476.10.2 Parental Leave — Exempt employees may take a parental leave for up to one year and return to their positions under the same uniform terms and conditions as any other employee, consistent with the SCD POLICY on leaves of absence. Exempt employees should notify their supervisors one quarter in advance of the intention to take parental leave and the estimated time of return to work.
  • 476.10.3 Personal Leave — The appointing authority may grant a personal leave of absence without pay for up to one year to an exempt employee for sufficient reason.

476.20 APPLICATION FOR LEAVE OF ABSENCE

Employees on leave without pay may continue their benefit programs by self - paying full monthly premiums. The employer contribution may not be used for individuals on leave without pay.

476.30 MILITARY LEAVE

Any exempt employee eligible under RCW 38.40.060, shall receive all applicable rights under that RCW including continuation of pay, leave accruals, and other benefits for 21 days each year beginning October 1st and ending the following September 30th.
