Faculty Opportunities There are many opportunities for Seattle Community Colleges faculty to participate in professional development abroad. SCCD Global Impact - Leader / Participant Opportunities See Global Impact service learning site. Some faculty may be eligible to become group leaders.
International Faculty Development Grant This is a special designation of funds from the presidents of the colleges of SCCD to promote faculty development in the area of international understanding through travel and research abroad. Faculty have used these funds to facilitate a variety of initiatives overseas; research projects, guest lectureships, faculty exchanges with sister institutions abroad, international conferences, workshops, or seminars.
Fulbright Programs
Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program The Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program involves one-on-one exchanges with foreign educators, primarily at the secondary and post-secondary levels. More than 200 U.S. educators are involved each year.
Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Program Under the Scholar-in-Residence (SIR) program, interested institutions or consortia submit proposals to invite scholars to teach one or more courses and to be in residence for a semester or an academic year.
Short-term Fulbright Programs Instructors/Administrators in the Humanities, World Languages, and Social Sciences with three years full-time experience in the Seattle Community College District and can apply for a funded 4-6 week professional development trip abroad.
Short-term Faculty Development Programs Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) and College Consortium for International Studies (CCIS) both provide 1-2 week intensive overseas programs or seminars for U.S. faculty and administrators. These are hosted by prestigious academic institutions abroad and are designed to offer focused updates on global issues and regions that are shaping the course of world events, while introducing the faculty to scholarly communities overseas.
International Research and Exchanges Board IREX is a non-profit organization whose efforts encompass professional training, technical assistance, and policy programs with newly-independent states, Central and Eastern Europe, Mongolia, and China.
