DIRECTIONS TO DISTRICT OFFICE
The Seattle Community College District is the second largest higher education institution in Washington State, serving more than 53,000 students annually at Seattle Central, North Seattle, South Seattle Community Colleges and Seattle Vocational Institute (SVI). The District is governed by a five-member Board of Trustees, appointed by the Governor for five-year terms.
The Seattle Community College District Office is responsible for leading and coordinating district-wide functions, activities and services in four areas:
The Chancellor's Office serves as a focal point for district-wide policy and initiatives for the colleges and community. The Chancellor, Dr. Jill Wakefield, represents the district to state and local elected officials, the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, civic and business leaders and the community, and state, regional and local organizations. The three college presidents, who are responsible for the operation and management of the three colleges, report to the chancellor.
The Chancellor's Office also includes the Office of Advancement and the Public Information Office. The Advancement Office coordinates district-wide fundraising efforts. The Public Information Office is responsible for district-wide internal and external communications, including publications, special events, marketing and media relations.
The Office of Business and Finance is responsible for articulating the long range financial vision of the colleges and for managing the district-wide budget development process, distributing state and local funds to the colleges, and reporting to the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges and to the District's Board of Trustees. This office ensures that the business and finance services for the Seattle Community College District are in compliance with the laws and policies that govern Washington State's community colleges. The Business and Finance Office is responsible for Accounting, Budget Reporting and Analysis, Payroll and Benefits, Purchasing, Information Technology, Library Technical Services, Mail Receiving and Printing.
The Office of Human Resources provides support to the district in achieving a high rate of employee diversity which reflects the district's student body and community. The office serves the district through recruitment and employment services, and supports district human resource information services. It is responsible for administering employment functions for approximately 2,500 employees, including employment rules and statutes interpretation; salary adjustments; sabbatical programs; leave and unemployment compensation programs; and employee records maintenance. Human Resources also coordinates labor negotiations, and affirmative action activities.
The Office of Education, Planning, eLearning and Workforce Education (Vice Chancellor's Office) provides leadership, advocacy and services to enhance teaching and learning and to support district-wide needs. The office co-ordinates with faculty, administrators and staff throughout the district to address organizational, curriculum and testing issues, and promote student success. The office produces data, analyses and publications for federal and state agencies, the Board of Trustees, the college and community. The office oversees the Seattle Community Colleges website, and manages the district-wide eLearning program, including new course offerings. Faculty professional development is fostered through workshops and grants. The office also coordinates workforce development programs within the District and establishes business and community partnerships.
