The Seattle Community College District is governed by a five-member Board of Trustees who serve sequential five-year terms. Trustees are appointed by the Washington State Governor and confirmed by the State Senate.
The primary responsibility of the Board of Trustees is to meet the changing educational needs of the community while reflecting the community's values in fulfilling the college mission. Trustees are charged with certifying the consistency of missions and goals with community need, formulating policy, and ensuring effective leadership and responsible use of resources.
In addition to their duties on the Seattle Community College District Board, Trustees also serve on committees for trustee organizations such as the state-wide Trustees Association of Community and Technical Colleges and the national American Association of College Trustees.
