What is JavaScript?

A cross-platform, World Wide Web scripting language used by sites with dynamic content to give increased interactive functionality.

JavaScript code is used within an HTML page to respond to user actions - such as button clicks, mouse roll-overs. A major use is to run a process locally, such as validating form input when a form is submitted.
