The Seattle Colleges offer bachelor's degrees that create educational pathways, build on two-year technical degrees and expand
When compared to traditional bachelor’s degrees, these four-year Bachelor of Applied Science degrees (B.A.S.) incorporate
more applied, hands-on learning focused on a particular industry, and include strong internship components. They often offer
credit for prior learning and workplace experience.
The Seattle Colleges — Seattle Central College, North Seattle College and South Seattle College — are committed to providing a
wide range of relevant educational opportunities. A new Registered Nurse Bachelor’s degree (R.N. to B.S.N.) is in the
approval process and more degree options are in planning stages. Today, we offer the following bachelor’s degrees.
The B.A.S. in Allied Health Sciences degree is designed for students who have completed allied health occupational
certificates, health-related professional licenses and allied health associate degree programs. Graduates will help meet
the growing demand for baccalaureate level allied health practitioners in the Seattle-King County area. Allied Health B.A.S.
degree students select one of four allied health tracks:
The B.A.S. in Application Development prepares graduates for entry-level positions in software development careers by
providing industry-relevant applied education in application development. Instruction focuses on current industry trends and
the skills needed by software developers and programmers who create and modify general computer application software, mobile
applications or specialized utility programs. A strong emphasis on industry-based projects throughout the program will
prepare graduates to meet current and future industry needs and emerging software trends.
The B.A.S. in Applied Behavioral Science is a substantive, human services four-year degree for direct service practitioners.
This program is designed for students with a two-year degree in social and human services, child and family studies,
interpreting services or a related degree.
The B.A.S. in Hospitality Management gives students who have completed a two-year technical degree or approved associate’s
degree a broad set of competencies in the hospitality industry. Students take classes that explore various positions in the
hospitality field, which includes tourism, hotel operations, restaurant management, catering, cruise ships operations,
casino operations and travel. This program focuses on applied management training in the hospitality industry.
The B.A.S. in International Business is a pathway for students who have completed a two-year technical degree or approved
associate’s degree. The program leverages existing business and accounting coursework and adds a combination of upper
division courses in international business and hands-on learning experiences to prepare graduates to work in the international
business industry. Students will complete a practicum as well as an internship, giving them important real world experience
and cultural awareness.
The B.A.S. in Professional Technical Teacher Education—Teach Tech for short—prepares students who have completed a two-year
technical degree or approved associate degree and a minimum of two years related work experience for professional teaching
positions at community and technical colleges. The program emphasizes upper-division coursework on the complexities of the
adult learner, the role of community colleges in society, and issues of equity. Students will learn how to move from
teaching solely for content mastery to student-centered learning and leadership.
The B.A.S. in Sustainable Building Science Technology prepares students who have a two-year technical degree or approved
associate degree to manage high-tech building operations. Classes focus on building functions and project finance with
the goal of making facilities more durable, sustainable, efficient and economical. Graduates will be prepared to work in
operations maintenance, capital programs and project management, strategic planning and portfolio management, and/or
corporate real estate finance.

Green for the 21st Century in Seattle
Innovations in curriculum and operations have earned the 2009 Green Washington Award for the Seattle Colleges
– Central, North and South. All three colleges are active members of the Seattle Climate Partnership and North was an
early signer of the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment. A district-wide Chancellor’s
Sustainability Initiative provides energy, focus and a forum for emerging training and initiatives.
Sustainability is infused into programs ranging from urban agriculture at Central to environmental science,
real estate and building management across the district. Students have funded a sustainability coordinator.
Campus activities include reducing the carbon footprint and promoting recycling and energy conservation, which earned
a “Recycler of the Year” award for South. Last year, the college culinary operations diverted 31 tons of
materials to a regional composting facility – which returned the compost to “green” the college landscape.

Helping displaced workers to
‘Start Next Quarter’
During the economic downturn, thousands of displaced workers turned to the Seattle Colleges at the same
time regional employers reported a need for skilled workers to fill jobs in the new economy. To help both potential
workers and employers, the Seattle Colleges developed Start Next Quarter (SNQ), a two-part initiative
designed to improve the success of dislocated workers who enroll in technical education programs. SNQ invites
prospective students to assess their eligibility for workforce funding online and connects them to a comprehensive
two-day college success workshop held at each campus. The workshops are based on a model developed at one of the
district campuses. Students who complete the workshop are more likely to complete their training programs and to
obtain jobs using their new skills. The project was developed in part through a grant from the League for Innovation,
funded by the Walmart Foundation Bright Futures project to serve displaced workers.
A Model for the Region
The Opportunity Center for Employment and Education at North Seattle College is a regional resource and
the first integrated service center of its kind in Washington state. Since the OCE&E opened its doors in spring 2011,
more than 40,000 people have come for one-stop help in finding a new job, career retraining or to sign up for public
assistance benefits. Founding partners were the state Departments of Social and Health Services and Employment
Security, the college, and the Workforce Development Council of Seattle-King County. The campus and the new LEED
Gold Certified 45,000-square foot facility are in the heart of Seattle’s north end and close to a major transit hub.
House Speaker Frank Chopp and Rep. Phyllis Gutierrez Kenney (sponsor of the legislation and a former Seattle District trustee)
championed the OCE&E in the state legislature. The center aims to provide streamlined services in a positive environment,
helping clients succeed in the next stage of their lives.
